Sports Photography Seminar with John D. Hubbard • May 28, 2009
May 7th, 2009Danella Photographic will sponsor a sports photography seminar with John D. Hubbard. Thursday, May 28th, 2009. This informal interactive event will be held at the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute Auditorium from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
This event is free and open to the public. It is presented as a component of Danella Photographic’s continued commitment to providing information that will assist photographers of all levels.
For several years Hubbard has been shooting athletics at Hamilton College and his slide shows, featuring flora, fauna and folks, run before the previews at the Hamilton Movie Theater. He is a former sports editor for a daily newspaper, spent 25 years in university communications and is now the director of public relations and development for Community Memorial Hospital, where there are no sports but lots of sports injuries.
Also a writer, he chronicles life in a small town, spotlighting everyone from dirt farmers to visiting dignitaries, in stories and a weekly column. Hubbard and his wife Mary Jo, the finest woman in Madison County, live in the woods with a dwindling number of animals and none of their three grown children. There are two grandchildren, who visit regularly, and one on deck.
During this unique event, John Hubbard will provide a working pro’s insider tips and techniques for outstanding action sports photographs. Whether photographing a child’s AYSO soccer match or a major league baseball game, John’s suggestions, tips and accompanying photographs are guaranteed to improve the quality of everyone’s images.
The auditorium at Munson Williams is easily accessed from the parking lot located at Cottage Place. Use the rear entrance to the main museum.

Awesome Annie’s 2009 Nikon Calendar Review
March 16th, 2009Danella Photographic is going green ! Just kidding of course, but any business that doesn’t publish that won’t ever get into the Utica Observer Dispatch Progress Edition.
Three months into the year, and finally the Awesome Annie 2009 Nikon Calendar review gets published ! No wonder Danella Photographic didn’t get a bailout, a TARP, a twitter from B. Obama or a mention in the Utica Observer Dispatch Progress/Business Update Special Sunday Edition.
We deserve to be snubbed.
After reviewing ( and slightly editing ) Awesome Annie’s 2009 commentary, our only sadness here is that the calendar wasn’t published by Canon.
If you still don’t have a Nikon 2009 calendar, we actually still have some so cruise in and pick one up. If you are not in the Utica area, we’ll be happy to mail one to you for the cost of the postage while supplies last.
Awesome Annie’s comments for the pictures appear under each image.
There’s a box at the end of this article that states ” Leave A Reply. “ Your comments either about the photographs or about Awesome Annie’s commentary should be left there. It’s cool when you comment. It’s green.
Enjoy

A Moment In Central NY 2008 Contest Winners !
October 30th, 2008Wow…over 90 entries and the choices were difficult.
Judge Ralph Sexton picked the top five and an anonymous committee picked 11 additional photographs as worthy of recognition. Another 15 pictures could easily have been added to these lists, because this year’s photographic entries were outstanding.
The show opening will be November 13th at the Bank of America, 50 Genesee Street in the village of New Hartford at 5PM.
There will be a people’s choice award vote at the opening.
If you submitted an entry and would like to speak to the judge, Ralph Sexton has agreed to be available at the show’s opening.

Utica Camera Club April 2008 Competition
April 15th, 2008The April 2008 Utica Camera Club Competition was judged by Utica area photographer Steve Marsh. Steve is known in some circles as one of the area’s most winning photographers. He has countless first place wins and memorable photographs to his credit.
First Place • Open Color
Cheri Sassman
Steve Marsh’s Comment:
” I usually do not pick flowers, but this one is abstract. It contains rainbows and water glistening. It has swerve splash lines of movement. It’s a dramatic image; I like the lines that travel through the image the most. It has vibrancy, life-flow and a dreamlike feel. This image is different and unique. ”
First Place • Open Black and White
Jeanette Liddle
Steve Marsh’s Comment:
” In spite of being very dark with low light, the shot detail goes all the way back. The darks and lights are very nicely exposed. The composition is nicely done. This shot has a story. I would put it on my computer and stare at it.”
First Place Assigned Topic
Mary Hunt-Miller
Steve Marsh’s Comment:
” Can I buy this one? It’s incredible. I had to get up and look closely. I really like the way the detail is lost on top of the mountain. All lines point to the figure. It’s a very nice image.
